One of the most annoying things about Europe, and being a techie, is that Europe has less of things. Less sometimes being less, and other times being more (expensive). For movie and tv watchers this is all too common. Netflix is good hear, but 2009 good, not 2013 good. Meaning, it as though what is viewable here is 4 years behind USA Netflix. And all EMEA countries are not equal. England, is better then Germany, which is better than Denmark which is better than Poland.
How to get around this issue? Well, you can move to USA, and that would solve it, but not an option for most Europeans. The second best way is to virtually be in USA, while sitting on your European couch. Best option!
So, how can you be virtually be in USA, but sitting in Europe? Easy, VPN. I won't get into what VPN is here, but it is suffice to say, it is a virtual private network. And if the end of the VPN is sitting in USA, for instance, Dallas TX, then you are virtually in USA.
What you need: VPN. I use ProXPN, the free account. This is because most sites you only need to be virtual for the initial load or verification not for the entire stream. That is for most site, some like HULU are anal it seems, and you must keep your virtuality for the entire program.
Well, here is the rest of the formula. Configure an account (free is sufficient), under proXPN. While most of the time, checking email, and youtube, you don't need VPN, well don't launch it. When you are ready to watch a real Netflix movie, now is the time to launch it. Go to the Netflix site, which will invoke the proXPN product and redirect you to their verification site. You will wait the 8 seconds and the session will be invoked. If you have the pro version, the 8 seconds will be 0 seconds, but for free, 8 seconds is fine.
Start playing your movie, in Netflix and wait for the timeline to get to 100% (slower than without VPN turned on). Once the movie or TV show is playing, go ahead and disconnect from the VPN. This will increase the download speed, but for Netflix, they have already validated your location as Dallas, TX.
Unfortunately, the next movie, you will need to go through this again. For me, no issue for the free costs and virtuality of the service.
